Sai Hing Traditional Bak Kut Teh (Serves 2-3 persons)
Bak Kut Teh is a delicacy that one must have the privilege to indulge in every once in a while. With succulent, tender pork ribs simmered in a fragrant, peppery broth, Bak Kut Teh is a hearty meal best paired with a bowl of steaming, fluffy rice and shared amongst family members.
The dish is claimed to have been invented for coolies working at the port to supplement their meagre diet and as a tonic to boost their health in the early 20th century.
The dish was popular among early Chinese immigrants, many of whom had also come from Fujian.
