The creator of this pot was Pan Shicheng, a native of Putian, Fujian Province, at the end of the Qing Dynasty. Since Pan's family had a taste for tea, he ordered exclusive sand pots in Yixing for his own use and as gifts. Pan's custom-made sand pots have a fixed shape. The habit of drinking tea from small vermilion clay pots must have originated with him, and therefore all authentic Pan pots designed and made by Pan Shicheng would have been small vermilion clay pots! There are three general types of pots, tall, short and medium! Due to the honour of the Pan family, daughters would bring Pan pots as dowry when they got married in the hope that they could teach their children well in their husband's family and become as rich as Pan Shicheng.
