Blackstrap molasses is the more concentrated by-product, obtained from the 3rd boiling of the sugarcane syrup after the sucrose in the sugar gets crystallized. It has been used since the 19th century as a popular and affordable sweetener. The use of blackstrap molasses was popularized during the health food movement in the mid-20th century.
Blackstrap molasses is a healthy sweetener, full of nutritional value, unlike refined white sugar or artificial sweeteners like saccharine. Just two teaspoons contain over 10% of the US Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) of calcium, magnesium, copper, manganese, iron, and potassium, B vitamins and other valuable minerals and nutrients.
Nature's Glory Blackstrap Molasses is made from organically grown sugar cane. Roots of the sugar cane take 12 to 15 months to mature and can grow to 3 meters deep, drawing from the soil a wide variety of minerals not normally found in topsoil. The cane is pressed to extract the juice and sugar is removed leaving dark syrup.
