Geranium likes to be warm in winter and cool in summer. In winter, the indoor temperature is kept at 10-15℃ every day, and the temperature at night is above 8℃. But the optimum temperature is 15-20℃. Geraniums like dryness and hate dampness, so you should not water too much in winter. If the soil is wet, the stems are tender, which is not conducive to the germination and opening of flowering branches; long-term excessive humidity will cause the plants to grow elongated, the flowering branches move up, and the leaves gradually yellow and fall off.

Geranium needs plenty of sunlight during its growth period, so it must be placed in a sunny place in winter. Insufficient light, long stems and leaves, thin pedicels, and stunted inflorescence; flower buds under low light often do not bloom smoothly and wither early. Geranium does not like too much fertilizer, too much fertilizer will make the geranium grow too vigorously and not bloom.

1. Temperature control: The most suitable temperature for geranium is 10-20℃, which is the most suitable in spring and autumn. Winter is too cold and summer is too hot. So in the summer, be sure to prevent sun exposure and keep it in a cool place. In winter, the indoor temperature should not be lower than 0℃, otherwise it will suffer from frostbite. If there is no heat preservation equipment, a large 200-watt light bulb in a small room will also have a certain anti-freezing effect.

2. Moisture control: excessive watering of geraniums is contraindicated. If the roots of geraniums are found to fester, it may be due to excessive watering and the weather is relatively hot. The frequency of watering is controlled to water once every 2-3 days, and each watering requires a large amount of water to ensure thorough watering.

3. Soil selection: Geranium is suitable for survival in sandy soil. The soil bought in the flower market mixed with some sandy soil is more conducive to the growth of Geranium.

4. Weather influence: Windy weather will break the geraniums, and heavy rain will make the roots of geraniums soaked by rain, causing the roots to breathe hypoxia and fester.

6. Fertilization control: Too much fertilization at one time will cause dehydration of geraniums. For example, applying too much nitrogen fertilizer will cause plants to grow wildly and not bloom. If too much fertilizer is applied, watering frequently can relieve symptoms.

7. Light conditions: Adequate sunlight will help geraniums bloom, but if the temperature is too high, it is not suitable for direct sunlight; in spring and autumn, geraniums should be exposed to more sunlight; in summer, pay attention to the temperature. If the temperature is too high, avoid making geraniums acceptable illumination.

It can be carried out in spring and autumn, and indoor pot sowing in spring is better. The suitable temperature for germination is 20-25℃. Geranium seeds are not big, and the soil should not be deep after sowing. It will germinate in about 2-5 days. If it is planted in autumn, it will bloom in the summer of the following year. After sowing and breeding, the seedlings can be selected to breed excellent intermediate varieties.

Except for the plants in a semi-dormant state from June to July, cuttings can be used. Best in spring and autumn. In the high temperature in summer, the cuttings are easy to turn black and rot. Use cuttings with a length of 10 cm, and the top part is the best, with vigorous growth and fast rooting. After cutting the cuttings, let the incision dry for a few days, form a film, and then insert it into a sand bed or a mixed matrix of expanded perlite and peat. Take care not to damage the cuttings’ stems, otherwise the wound is easy to rot. After inserting, put it in a semi-shade place, keep the room temperature at 13-18℃, and take root 14-21 days after it is closed. It can be potted when the root length is 3-4 cm.
